Canton, Alvernia Tie 2-2 After Late Roos Goal

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2022) - SUNY Canton (1-0-1) scored an equalizing goal with 16 seconds remaining in the third period to force an overtime period, shootout, and, ultimately a 2-2 tie, with Alvernia University (1-0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Body Zone.

The Golden Wolves took the shootout 2-0 with Abby Reisinger and Sydney Bradley making their attempts, and Julia Beaven making two stops.

After a scoreless first period, Alvernia needed just 44 seconds to light the lamp as Amber Steinhilpert scored a goal with the assist of Olivia Gilida and Gillian Evans

Canton evened it up 11 minutes later on a short-handed goal to make it 1-1.

The Golden Wolves retook the lead late in the third period with Julia Franklin scoring off the assist of Shae Hudec and Evan's second assist of the game.

Alvernia was close to coming away with the 2-1 win, but Canton spoiled that with an opposite post goal by Hannah Clement with just over 15 seconds remaining in the game.

The tie sent the game to a 3v3 overtime, but Alvernia had just one look on goal that was saved by the Roos. Canton sent in eight shots on net that were saved by Beaven.

After no one broke through in the 3v3 overtime, the game ended in a tie and went to a shootout. Reisinger and Bradley secured the 2-0 shutout win and Beaven made two stops for the Golden Wolves.

Evans led Alvernia with two assists and had four faceoff wins. Gilida finished with four blocked shots and an assist.

Beaven finished the afternoon with 55 saves.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Friday at Lebanon Valley College to open its UCHC schedule.
