Alvernia Falls to #3 NYU

New York, NY (Nov. 12, 2022) - Alvernia University (0-2) fell to #3 New York University (1-0) by a 101-58 decision on Saturday evening in the opening game of the NYU Women's Basketball Tip-Off tournament at NYU's Brooklyn Athletic Facility. 

The Violets scored the opening nine points of the game, setting the tone for the rest of the competition. 

A jumper by Jordyn Ingelido got Alvernia on the board with 7:25 remaining in the first quarter, but the Violet continued to push the pace and led 18-4 with five minutes remaining in the opening frame. NYU would take a 24-10 lead into the second quarter.

A 3-pointer by Ingelido marked the first points of the second quarter and got Alvernia back within 11, 24-13. But, the Golden Wolves did not get any closer the rest of the half as NYU took a 45-25 lead into the half. 

Taliyah Malone led Alvernia with five points in the second quarter, including three points on free throws. 

Jordan Karmonick hit a three to open the scoring in the third quarter and make it a 45-28 game, but the Violet then held Alvernia scoreless for the next four minutes while adding 14 to their score. A layup by Cathryn Kramer put an end to the run, but Alvernia could not slow the Violet down as NYU took a 73-42 lead into the fourth quarter.

NYU did not let its lead drop below 30 the rest of the way as the Violet came away with the 101-58 win.

Malone finished with 13 points while Karmonick and Kramer finished with ten. Tamia Wessels, Meghan Ruth, and Tyra Robinson each finished with six boards. 

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow in Brooklyn as the Golden Wolves face Union College.
