Alvernia Ties Anna Maria, 2-2

Golden Wolves Take Shootout, 2-1

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2022) - Alvernia University (3-1-2) played to a 2-2 draw with Anna Maria College (1-3-2) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Body Zone.

The Golden Wolves took the shootout 2-1 with Abby Reisinger and Lexi Hooper converting their attempts.

The game was scoreless for just over 50 minutes until Olivia Gilida scored an unassisted goal with 10:05 to play in the game.

The Amcats came back and evened it up at 1-1 two and a half minutes later, and then took the lead, 2-1, with just under three minutes to play.

With just under a minute and a half remaining, Anna Maria's Hannah Harvey was sent to the box for hooking to send the Golden Wolves on a power play. After a shot was saved by the Amcats and covered, Alvernia went back for its second faceoff of the power play. Gillian Evans won the faceoff for the Golden Wolves and, nine seconds later, Amber Steinhilpert evened the game up at 2-2 off the assist of Sydney Bradley.

The game then went into the five minute 3v3 overtime. The Golden Wolves had nine looks on net, but Amcat goalie Julia Smith was able to make the stops to send the game into a shootout.

After Anna Maria made the first attempt of the shootout, Reisinger evened it up on Alvernia's first attempt. Alvernia goalie Julianna Rodgers then made the stop on Anna Maria's second attempt, while a make from Lexi Hooper but the Golden Wolves up 2-1 on the shootout. Rodgers then made the stop on Anna Maria's must-make third attempt to seal the 2-1 shootout for Alvernia.

Steinhilpert finished with one goal and ten faceoff wins for Alvernia, while Gilida finished with one goal and two blocks. Rodgers, who was playing in her collegiate debut, made 30 saves.

Alvernia is back in action on Friday at Neumann University.
