Men's Wrestling Wins Racich Rumbles

Collegeville, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2022) - Alvernia University Men's Wrestling took first place in the field of 14 teams on Saturday at the Ursinus College Racich Rumble.

Alvernia finished with 123 points, finishing 6.5 points ahead of second-place SUNY-Cortland.

Matthew Lackman, Jason Rezac, and Isaac Kassis each took first place in their respective weight classes. Mauro Pellot-Vazquez finished in third place, Anthony Portillo took fourth place, and both Gino Giacolona and Palmer Rodenhaber took sixth place.

Lackman won the 165 lb bracket by defeating #4 Cooper Pontelandolfo of NYU in a 3-1 decision. The bout was a rematch of the 5th place match at last season's Division III National Championship. Lackman also recorded a 51 second fall, 18-3 technical fall, and two additional decisions en route to his win.

Rezac won the 157 lb bracket with a 15-5 major decision over York's Jared Bair. His track to the championship bout also included a 15-0 technical fall, a pin in 1:58 over WPI's Theo Sawyers, and two additional decisions.

Kassis won the 184 lb bracket by a medical forfeit in the final bout over Cortland's Demiterious Henry. Kassis recorded two major decisions in his early rounds, and an 8-2 decision in the quarterfinal. 

Pellot-Vazquez recorded four pins en route to his third place finish. He recorded back-to-back pins in the consi semis and finals, including a pin in 2:51 over Wilkes' Hunter Lowe.

Saturday's win at Racich marks Alvernia's second consecutive win at the Ursinus tournament. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday at Muhlenberg's Scotty Wood Inivitational.
