Reading, Pa. (Nov. 19, 2022) - Alvernia University (4-2-2, 3-1-0) fell to Neumann University, (1-7-0, 1-5-0) 2-1, in overtime in UCHC women's ice hockey action Saturday night at BodyZone.
Alvernia highlighted a scoreless first period by tallying 10 shots on goal to Neumann's four. Laila Tosi, Lexi Hooper and Olivia Gilida all fired two shots on target in the first period for Alvernia and Carolyn Burton added another.
Neumann opened up the scoring just over 11 minutes into the second period when Emma Tauken found Taylor Ettore who scored a power play goal to give Neumann a 1-0 lead heading into the final nine minutes of the second period.
The Golden Wolves rattled off ten shots in the final eight minutes of the second period with six of them being saved by Neumann's Michelle Winand- Bacon to give the Knights a one goal lead heading into the final intermission.
The Golden Wolves fired four shots on goal to open the third period before Amber Steinhilpert scored an unassisted goal with just over eight minutes left in the game to level the score at 1-1.
Alvernia tallied six shots on goal in the final seven minutes but could not find the back of the net as the game went into overtime, tied at 1-1.
It took Neumann just 42 seconds to net the game winner when Winland-Bacon found Lian Sydorowicz to give the Knights a 2-1 victory over the Golden Wolves.
Julia Beaven finished with 20 saves in net for the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia is back in action on Friday, December 2nd when they take on Utica University at 4:00 PM at Utica.
