Golden Wolves Run By Lions, 79-53

Media, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2022) - Alvernia University (3-3) used a big second quarter to propel itself to a 79-53 win over Penn State Brandywine (1-3) on Tuesday night in non-conference women's basketball at Penn State Brandywine.

Alvernia led by three, 18-15, following the opening ten minutes. The Golden Wolves then outscored Penn State Brandywine 31-13 in the second frame, and used that lead to carry themselves the rest of the way.

The Lions and Golden Wolves traded the lead throughout the first quarter. A 3-pointer by Taliyah Malone with 1:34 to play in the first quarter gave Alvernia the four point lead, 15-11. But, the Lions scored on back-to-back jumpers to even the game up at 15-15 with under a minute to go. Alvernia would have the final say, though, in the quarter as Jordyn Ingelido knocked down a three with 35 seconds to go in the quarter to give Alvernia the 18-15 lead going into the second frame.

Nicole Etchison highlighted Alvernia's second quarter efforts, coming in off the bench and scoring six points in the final five minutes and dishing out two assists.

Alvernia took the 49-28 lead into the third quarter, and held the Lions to just three points in the first seven of the second half. Alvernia built its lead up to 29 during Penn State's offensive struggles. Kayla Williams accounted for seven of Alvernia's points in the opening seven minutes, and a fastbreak layup off a steal by Malone gave Alvernia its largest lead of the game, 60-31, with 3:19 to play in the quarter.

The Lions knocked down two quick threes to get six back, but Alvernia answered with a layup from Williams and jumper by Ingelido to push the lead back up to 27, 64-37, with 1:17 to play in the quarter.

Free throws were exchanged the rest of the quarter as Alvernia took the 65-39 lead into the final ten minutes.
