UCHC Final Standings set as Manhattanville Downs Alvernia

Purchase N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2022)- Manhattanville College (15-8-1, 15-5) shutout Alvernia University (11-13-1, 9-10-1) in a 1-0 win at Manhattanville in Alvernia's UCHC regular-season finale Monday afternoon. With this loss, Alvernia finishes in seventh in the standings for the UCHC playoffs.

The first period started out fast, as the Valiant's offense applied early pressure. Manhattanville scored early, slipping a shot past Julia Beaven that had rebounded off a defender with 15:39 left to play in the opening stanza.

Halfway through the period, the Golden Wolves had two possible scoring opportunities, with Amber Steinhilpert and Fiona Stewart both firing away a shot. Despite the effort, Alvernia's offense was unable to find the back of the net.

As the period progressed, Alvernia had a late power-play opportunity. However, the Valiant's defense was able to kill the penalty and hold onto their slim lead. Manhattanville ended the first period on top of Alvernia, 1-0.

The second period kicked off with the Valiant's offense trying to extend their lead. Beaven and the Golden Wolves' defense held firm though, as they stifled the strong offense. Alvernia responded with two quick shots of their own, with neither finding the back of the net.

Manhattanville's offense kept applying pressure throughout the period, with Alvernia able to fend off every attack. The Valiants did have a power-play opportunity with 3:41 left in the second stanza, but the Golden Wolves penalty-killing unit held strong. Manhattanville ended the second period on top of Alvernia, 1-0.

Alvernia opened the third period with a quick shot from Sydney Bradley. Manhattanville's offense quickly responded, once again putting the Golden Wolves back on their heels.

Alvernia had a power-play opportunity with 11:40 left in the contest. The Golden Wolves fired away eight shots in the two-minute opportunity, but none of them were able to find the back of the net.

Alvernia recorded 11 more shots in the final nine minutes of the contest. Despite the late-game opportunities, the Valiants defense fended off the attacks. Manhattanville finished the contest with a slim lead over Alvernia, 1-0.

Beaven faced 49 shots one goal, recording 48 saves.

The Golden Wolves kick off playoff action tomorrow at 3:00 PM, as they travel on the road to match up against Utica College. Alvernia last matched up against Utica in December, with the Pioneers claiming both games.
