Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar 6, 2022)- Alvernia University (2-4-1) dropped both games in the first of its Florida schedule, losing to Muskingum University (1-1) 5-0 and Baldwin Wallace University (6-0) 6-4 in non-conference baseball action in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Golden Wolves kicked off the day against Muskingum University. The first game was kicked off by the Muskies, who jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Alvernia stranded four runners in the first five innings, unable to capitalize on the opportunities. Muskingum University grew its lead at the bottom of the fifth, growing its lead to three.
The Muskies expanded their lead in the sixth inning, taking a 5-0 lead. The Golden Wolves were able to get two runners on base in the top of the ninth but were unable to capitalize. Muskingum ended the contest on top of Alvernia, 5-0.
In game two of the afternoon, Baldwin Wallace took a 2-0 lead at top of the second inning. The Golden Wolves cut the deficit in half, with
Nick Nutile driving in
Brandon Smith in the bottom of the second. Alvernia tied the contest up in the bottom of the third, with
Joe Ginder crossing home plate on the game-tying run.
The Yellow Jackets reclaimed the lead just half an inning later, as four runners scored to give them a 6-2 lead. As the game progressed, the Golden Wolves left two stranded in the fifth inning, before cutting the deficit to three, with Ginder singling to center field to drive in
Kyler Newton.
The Golden Wolves kept pushing, with
Jason Kelly crossing home plate off a single from
Lucas Floyd. Despite the effort, the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on to their lead. Baldwin Wallace finished the contest on top of Alvernia, 6-4.
The Golden Wolves return to action tomorrow, facing off against Rockford University.
