Alvernia Records Third Straight Shutout with 6-0 Win over King's

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 3, 2023) - Alvernia University (3-0, 1-0) recorded its third straight shutout as Alvernia opened UCHC play with a 6-0 win over King's College (1-2, 0-1) on Friday night in women's ice hockey action at Body Zone.

Alvernia got on the board early after Gillian Evans found Shae Hudec on a cross ice pass and Hudec fired into the net to put the Golden Wolves on the board after just over a minute of action.

Alvernia peppered King's with 10 shots - including six on goal - over the next 11 minutes, but King's kept Alvernia from tacking onto its lead early.

The Golden Wolves broke through again 40 seconds into a power play opportunity as a Amber Steinhilpert fired one past the King's goalie to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the first period.

Alvernia continued to fire shots at King's, but the Monarchs tallied a total of ten saves in the first period to keep it a 2-0 game going into the second period. Alvernia outshot the Monarchs 12-1 in the first frame.

Alvernia added one onto its lead in the second period as Khenzie Connick netted her first career goal to give the Golden Wolves a 3-0 lead with six minutes to play in the second. Alvernia's defense, behind goalie Juliana Rodgers, killed off a 5v3 power play to keep the Monarchs off the board during the period.

The Golden Wolves kept things rolling in the third period as Lexi Hooper netted Alvernia's fourth goal of the game with 5:10 to play. Alvernia didn't stop there as Connick scored her second goal of the game to make it 5-0 just under a minute after Hooper's goal. Riley Hill also got in on the action, scoring her first career goal with 15 seconds to play to cap off the night for Alvernia as the Golden Wolves came away with the 6-0 win.

Connick led Alvernia with two goals, and Hooper finished with a goal and an assist. Carolyn Burton had two blocks for the Golden Wolves and Julia Franklin led Alvernia on the faceoff, going 11-for-15. Rodgers finished with nine saves as Alvernia picked up its third shutout win of the season.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow on the road at King's.
