Rochester, N.Y. (February 22, 2023) - Alvernia University (8-16-2) fell to Nazareth University (17-7-2) 5-1, in a UCHC men's ice hockey quarterfinal Wednesday night at Nazareth.

Nazareth struck first when Joshua Dressler assisted Logan Tobias in the 12th minute of the first period to put the Golden Flyers up 1-0. 

The Golden Flyers made it 2-0 when Harrison Dumas netted a goal with under three to play in the first period thanks to assists from Johnny Jackson and Mark Meinecke to give Nazareth a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. 

The Golden Flyers continued to apply pressure and made it 3-0 nine minutes into the second period when Anthony Quinlivan found the back of the net on a power-play to extend the advantage to three. 

Nazareth made it four just over two minutes later when Tobias assisted Dressler with eight minutes left in the second period. 

The Golden Wolves fired six shots at the Nazareth net but Nazareth's Raphael Provencher saved all six to take the game into the final intermission with Nazareth holding a 4-1 lead. 

Both teams traded shots back and forth for the first 16 minutes of the third period before Will White netted an unassisted goal to pull one back for Alvernia, making it 4-1 Nazareth with three minutes left. 

Nazareth added one more insurance goal when Tobias netted an empty net goal to secure the 5-1 victory. 

Daigle tallied 38 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia was led by White with the lone goal, Isaac Chapman led with four shots on goal, Brendan McBride added three and Matthew Davies led the team with three blocked shots. 

The loss marks the end of the inaugural season for the men's ice hockey program, finishing with an overall record of 8-16-2 and a 6-13-1 record in the UCHC.
