Reading, Pa (February 22, 2023) - Alvernia University (12-11-3, 11-8-1) fell to Chatham University (11-13-1, 10-9-1) 3-1, in a UCHC women's ice hockey semifinal matchup on Wednesday afternoon at BodyZone.

The Cougars got on the board first when Riley Malicki assisted Fiona Danahy five minutes into the contest to give Chatham a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Wolves fired 15 shots at the Chatham net in the final 15 minutes of the first period but could not find the back of the net as the Cougars took a one goal advantage into the first intermission.

Chatham made it 2-0 just three minutes into the second period when Karalyn Luby found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Dena Akers to give the Cougars a two goal lead.

Chatham continued to apply the pressure, sending 20 shots at the Alvernia net but Julia Beaven saved 13 of the 20 shots to keep the deficit at two heading into the final intermission.

Both teams traded shots back and forth in the first 15 minutes of the final period before the Golden Wolves pulled one back when Laila Tosi and Lexi Hooper assisted Shae Hudec with just over three minutes remaining to cut the deficit to one.

Chatham responded immediately, Cameron Carmody won the ensuing faceoff and took the puck down the ice and netted an unassisted goal to put the game out of reach, 3-1 with three minutes remaining.

The Golden Wolves fired three shots at the Chatham net in the final minutes but could not put one away as the Cougars secured the 3-1 victory.

Beaven tallied 31 saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves were led by Hudec who tallied the lone goal, Hooper and Tosi both added assists. Julia Franklin and Sydney Bradley both led the team with four shots on goal, Hooper, Amber Steinhilpert and Kathryn Palmer all tallied three.

The loss marks the end of the season for the Golden Wolves as they finished with a 12-11-3 overall record and a 11-8-1 record in the UCHC.
