Golden Wolves Fall to Mustangs, 24-2

Reading, Pa (April 29, 2023) - Alvernia University (4-12, 0-8) fell to Stevenson University (10-7, 7-1) 24-2, in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon at Alvernia. 

The Mustangs tallied 15 unanswered goals in the first 25 minutes of the game, then ripped off eight more en route to the 24-2 win. 

Stevenson tallied ten goals in the first quarter with Ryan Coleman netting three and Shane Ford added two as the Mustangs took a 10-0 lead after one quarter of play. 

The Mustangs then scored four goals in the second quarter before Alvernia senior Michael Ferrara ripped an unassisted man down goal to halt the Stevenson scoring run and make it 15-1. 

Stevenson scored three more goals in the final four minutes of the half to take a 18-1 lead into the break. 

The Mustangs came out of the half and scored five goals in the first ten minutes of the third stanza to take a 23-1 lead. 

Jack Keenan netted a man up goal for the Golden Wolves with an assist by Colin McFadyen with just under three minutes left in the third to make it 23-2 Mustangs. 

Stevenson scored the only goal of the fourth quarter with under 11 minutes to go in the game to make it 24-2 and secure the victory. 

Dane Sabarese started in goal for the Golden Wolves and tallied 25 saves and faced 86 shots. With 25 saves in today's game, Sabarese surpassed the 400 save mark for his career and ended the season with 266 saves and a career mark of 401 which ranks him third in program history. 

Ferrara and Keenan led the Golden Wolves with goals and McFayden tallied the only assist. Keenan and Ryan Gilman led with four shots and Jack Kenney won 11 faceoffs and finished the season with a single season record of 154 faceoffs won. 

The loss marks the end of the season for the Golden Wolves which saw their most wins in a single season since the 2013 season.
