Men's Tennis Opens Conference Play with 7-2 Win Over Eastern

Reading, Pa. (April 5, 2023) - Alvernia University (4-5, 1-0) opened up its MAC Commonwealth schedule with a 7-2 win over Eastern University (1-4, 0-2) on Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead after doubles play before picking up five more points in singles action for the 7-2 win.

Lucas Berger and Jayden Lewis picked up an 8-2 win at #1 doubles, and Thomas Figurelli and Kevin Angeles went 8-3 at #2 doubles to give Alvernia the 2-1 lead going into singles.

Berger did not give up a game at #1 singles as he took his match 6-0, 6-0. Lewis picked up another point for Alvernia with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2 singles.

Figurelli was narrowly edged out at #3 singles to give the Eagles a point, but Alvernia won its final three singles matches to take the 7-2 win. Angeles went 6-2, 6-1 at #4 singles, Benjamin Foster went 6-3, 6-4 at #5 singles, and Derrick Boltz capped things off with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #6 singles.

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday at Lebanon Valley.
