Owls Edge Golden Wolves, 1-0

BOX SCORE Haverford, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2023) - One goal was all Bryn Mawr College (2-0) needed as the Owls defeated Alvernia University (0-2) by a 1-0 decision on Monday night in non-conference field hockey action at neutral site Haverford College.

Alvernia was held without a shot in the first half. But, Alvernia's defense, behind goalie Lexi Boettcher, kept the Owls off the board. Boettcher had four saves in the first 30 minutes.

The Owls broke through midway through the third quarter as Bryn Mawr was awarded a corner and a shot attempt off the stick of Bryn Mawr's Sophie Vagts snuck through the legs of Boettcher and into the back of the net as the Owls took the 1-0 lead.

Alvernia fired off three quick shots shortly after the Bryn Mawr goal in the 39th minute, but two attempts were saved by the Owls keeper and the third was off target as Bryn Mawr retained the 1-0 lead going into the final frame.

The Owls peppered Boettcher with shots throughout the fourth quarter, but the Alvernia goalie made six saves to keep it a one goal game. However, Alvernia could not get another look at net the rest of the way as Bryn Mawr came away with the 1-0 win.

Boettcher finished with 13 saves in net for Alvernia. It marks her most saves in a game since posting a nearly identical stat line on the same date against the Owls last season at home. It is now the third time in her career that Boettcher has 13 saves in a game. Two have come against Bryn Mawr (2023, 2022) and the third game against Gettysburg (2021).

Alvernia is back in action on Thursday at Wilkes.
