Manhattanville Completes Sweep with 3-1 Win Over Alvernia

Rye, NY (Jan. 27, 2024) - Manhattanville University secured the series sweep over Alvernia University on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over the Golden Wolves in UCHC women's ice hockey action at Manhattanville.

The Valiants jumped out to a 3-0 lead through 25 minutes of action. Alvernia got one back in the second period, but could not find the net anymore as Manhattanville secured the 3-1 win.

With the loss, Alvernia drops to 9-8-2 overall and 7-7-2 in UCHC play. Manhattanville improves to 8-9-2 overall and 8-4-2 in UCHC play.

How it Happened
  • The Valiants needed just over a minute of action to get on the board, scoring after 1:16 of game play to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Manhattaville then made it a 2-0 game with just under five minutes to play in the period.
  • Alvernia had three power play opportunities, including a 5v3 chance, in the first period, but the Golden Wolves could not convert.
  • Manhattanville pushed it to a three goal lead five minutes into the second period, but Alvernia got on the board just under two and a half minutes later with a goal from Gillian Evans off the assists of Kathryn Palmer and Alex Robertson.
  • Alvernia was held to just five shots total on goal in the second period as Manhattanville took the two-goal advantage into the third period.
  • After a power-play filled first period, neither team had a power play in the second period.
  • The Golden Wolves outshot the Valiants 12-11 on goal in the third period, but Alvernia could not find the back of the net in the final 20 minutes as Manhattanville picked up the sweep over Alvernia with the 3-1 win.
