Tamia Wessels were named Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of January 2 - January 8, 2024.
Robert Mullan averaged 22.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Golden Wolves. Mullan shot 44% overall and 53% from 3-point range during the week. In an 82-76 overtime win over York on Wednesday, Mullan finished with 19 points, six rebounds, and a steal. He then had a career-high 26 points in an 88-83 win over crosstown rival Albright on Saturday. Mullan shot 53% overall and 62.5% from 3-point range. He had five made 3-pointers on the afternoon, including the game-winner with 1:09 to play.Â
Tamia Wessels averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Wolves. Wessels shot 48% overall and 60% from 3-point range. She finished the week with four assists and six steals while not committing a foul through two games. In a 67-65 setback to York on Wednesday, Wessels scored 17 points - including her 1,000th career point - and finished with eight rebounds and six steals. Wessels then scored 22 points in an 80-62 win over Albright on Saturday. Wessels finished 8-for-13 overall and was a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. She also added three assists on the afternoon.
Both basketball teams return to action on Wednesday. The men head to Messiah while the women host Messiah at 7:00 PM.Â
