Martin Leads Golden Wolves Over Blazers, 4-3

Reading, Pa (October 12, 2024) - Caroline Martin netted two goals and added an assist to power Alvernia University (8-4, 1-0) to a 4-3 victory over Hood College (7-5, 0-1) in a MAC Commonwealth field hockey matchup at Alvernia. 

Hood went into the halftime break with a one goal, 2-1 lead but the Golden Wolves outscored the Blazers 3-1 in the second half en route to the 4-3 comeback victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Blazers struck first in the 12th minute of the first quarter after Natalie Badour assisted Madeline Moreno to put Hood up 1-0 after 15 minutes of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves leveled the score seven minutes into the second quarter when Hailey Miller put the ball in the back of the net thanks to an assist from Caroline Martin to tie the game at one. 
  • Hood responded just over three minutes later when Kate Bentz found Bianca Scally who fired an absolute rocket of a shot into the back of the goal to make it 2-1 Blazers heading into the halftime break 
  • The Golden Wolves tied it up in the 39th minute of the game after Martin tallied her first of the game after an assist by Kelsy McClintock to make it a 2-2 game. 
  • The Blazers responded just under three minutes later thanks to a Sophie D'Agostino goal to make it 3-2 Hood heading into the final quarter of play. 
  • Alvernia found the leveler just over a minute into the fourth quarter after Martin netted her second of the game, this one an unassisted goal to level the score at three. 
  • The Golden Wolves bagged the game winner just 25 second later when after Alvernia was awarded a penalty stroke. Ava Michael stepped up to take the stroke and fired her attempt past the Hood goalie and into the back of the net to put the Golden Wolves up 4-3. 
  • The Alvernia defense held the Blazers shotless in the final ten minutes of the contest to secure the 4-3 comeback victory over the Blazers. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Caroline Martin tallied two goals and added an assist for the Golden Wolves and recorded a team high six shots on goal. 
  • Ava Michael netted the game winner and also recorded four shots with all four going on target. 
  • Gianna DeGregory recorded four shots on goal, Kelsy McClintock added five shots, three shots on goal and also an assist. 
  • Lexi Boettcher finished with five saves in net for the Golden Wolves and earned the win. 

Of Note 
  • Alvernia improves to 15-1 against the Blazers and increases their win streak against Hood to 15 games dating back to the first matchup in the fall of 1999.
