Reading, Pa (October 23, 2024) - Alvernia University (9-6, 2-2) dropped a MAC Commonwealth field hockey matchup to #9 York College (11-5, 2-2) 3-1, Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia.

The Spartans held a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break after a second quarter goal. The Spartans grabbed another in the third to make it 2-0 but the Golden Wolves responded with a goal in the third to make it 2-1 heading into the fourth. The Spartans then grabbed one more in the fourth quarter to secure the 3-1 victory.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves and the Spartans played a scoreless, defensive first quarter with the Golden Wolves recording only a penalty corner as the game heading into the second quarter locked at zero.
  • The Spartans opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute after Kate Egan found the back of the net to make it 1-0 York heading to the half.
  • The Spartans doubled the lead in the first six minutes of the second half after Libby Wild put the ball in the back of the goal thanks to an assist from Delaney Mitchell off of a corner to give the Spartans a two goal advantage.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed one back in the final minute of the third quarter after Alvernia was awarded a penalty stroke. Alvernia's Abbie Buck stepped up to take the stroke and fired her attempt past the York goalie and into the back of the net to make it 2-1 heading to the fourth quarter.
