Falar Eclipses 1,000 Career Assists as Golden Wolves Sweep Pacers, 3-0

Reading, Pa (October 31, 2024) - Alvernia University (12-13) completed the 3-0 sweep of Marywood University (6-19) Thursday night in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

With her 20th assist of the match, Alvernia senior Patricia Falar became the sixth player in Alvernia Women's Volleyball history to record over 1,000 career assists. Falar surpassed the 1,000 assist mark after she assisted teammate Julianna McGlone for the 23rd point of the second set. Falar currently sits at fifth all time in program history with one game to go in her career.

The Golden Wolves took all three sets by at least six points, 25-19, 25-18 and closed out the match with a 25-14 victory in set three to secure the sweep.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia jumped out to a quick 6-0 start, all off the serve of Patricia Falar, before Marywood called an early timeout. Julianna McGlone, Jamie Pierce, and Kayleigh Kehler all had kills during the run. The Pacers regrouped coming out of their timeout and slowly worked their way back into the set. Marywood got within two, 18-16, on a block. But, Alvernia began to pull away on two Marywood attack errors and a kill from Cierra Roberts as Alvernia took a 21-17 lead before Marywood used its final timeout of the set. Roberts picked up another point for Alvernia on an ace coming out of the timeout. Marywood held off one set point, but Alvernia closed out the set on a kill from Kehler, 25-19, to take the early 1-0 match lead.
  • Marywood were the ones to jump out to the early lead in the second set taking a 9-6 lead over the Golden Wolves but an Allie Evangelista kill sparked a 10-3 run for the Golden Wolves and swung the lead in their favor, 16-12. Evangelista hammered home three kills for Alvernia during the stretch, Falar added two and Kehler tallied another. Alvernia continued to control the set, taking six of the next 11 points of the set as the Golden Wolves held a 22-17 lead and forced a Marywood timeout. Alvernia came out of the timeout and tallied three of the final four points of the set thanks to kills from Evangelista and McGlone and an ace from Caroline Buggy sealed the 25-18 victory in the second set.
  • The Golden Wolves continued to control the match and grabbed another early lead in the final set. The Golden Wolves took a 13-6 lead to start the third set thanks to three kills from McGlone, two from Allison Wolf and one from Pierce. Marywood would be the one to record a scoring run after a timeout and cut the Alvernia lead to six, 18-12 but the Golden Wolves ended the third set on a 7-2 run that secured the 25-14 set three victory and also secured the 3-0 match sweep.
