Golden Wolves Fall to Diplomats, 65-47

Lancaster, Pa. (Nov. 23, 2024) - Franklin and Marshall College (5-1) used a 24-point third quarter to down Alvernia University (3-3), 65-47, on Saturday night in the championship game of the Franklin and Marshall Terry Green Tip-Off Tournament.

Alvernia and Franklin and Marshall went back and forth in the first half, with Alvernia leading for a majority of the first quarter. The Golden Wolves then trailed by just four points at the half before F&M outscored Alvernia 24-11 in the third quarter to pull away.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia opened the scoring with a put-back layup by Kylie Bradford on Alvernia's opening possession and took a 4-0 lead on another layup by Bradford as the Golden Wolves kept the Diplomats off the board through the first three and a half minutes of action.
  • Alvernia extended its lead to 9-2 on a Jennah DeGout 3-pointer and layup with four to play in the opening quarter, but Alvernia was outscored 12-0 in the final four minutes of the quarter as Franklin and Marshall took a 14-9 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Diplomats pushed their lead to eight, 17-9, with a 3-pointer on their opening possession of the second quarter, but Alvernia put an end to its scoreless drought with a DeGout layup 30 seconds into the quarter.
  • Alvernia held the Diplomats scoreless for the next four minutes as the Golden Wolves closed within one, 17-16, with an Aaliyah Ferrer 3-pointer, and retook the lead, 18-17, on a Ferrer jumper with 4:35 to play in the half. But, the Diplomat retook the lead on a 3-pointer on their next possession.
  • Alvernia tied the game back up 22-22 on a Bradford layup off a Ferrer steal with two minutes to play in the half, but those would be the final points scored by Alvernia in the half as Franklin and Marshall took a 26-22 lead into the break.
  • The Diplomats came out of the break firing and opened the third quarter on an 11-3 run through the first four minutes to push their lead to 12, 37-25. A quick four points between Olivia Burke and Bradford got Alvernia back within eight as the quarter hit its midpoint. But, another 10-2 run by the Diplomats over the next nearly four minutes made it a 47-31 game with one minute to play in the third. A layup from Bradford brought Alvernia within 14, 47-33, but the Diplomats scored a 3-pointer to close out the quarter and take a 17 point lead, 50-33, into the fourth quarter.
  • Alvernia was held without a field goal for the first four minutes of the fourth as Franklin and Marshall built its lead to 22, 57-35. A Paige O'Brien 3-pointer marked Alvernia's first field goal of the quarter, but F&M matched it with one of its own on its next possession.
  • The Golden Wolves outscored Franklin and Marshall in the final five minutes of action, but Alvernia could not catch the Diplomats as F&M came away with the 65-47 win.
