Reading, Pa. (November 2, 2024) - Alvernia University (10-7-3, 4-3) used an early first half goal to take a 1-0 win over Stevenson University (3-10-6, 4-3) on Saturday evening in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action at Alvernia.

Zeke Zambrano found Dominic Flowers in the 13th minute to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead. The Golden Wolves rode that lead through the final whistle. 

With the win, and a Widener win earlier in the afternoon, Alvernia will be the fourth seed in the 2024 MAC Commonwealth Championship beginning on Tuesday, November 5th.

 How it Happened

• Neither team could get much going in the opening ten minutes, but Alvernia broke through in the 13th minute to give the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 lead. Zeke Zambrano found Dominic Flowers on a great flick back, and Flowers fired on goal for the 1-0 lead.
• The Golden Wolves had two more opportunities on goal in the 25th and 27th minutes, but could not convert. Alvernia held Stevenson without a shot on goal in the first half as Alvernia took the 1-0 lead into the half.
• Alvernia had the first opportunity of the second half on another shot from Flowers in the 54th minute, but it was saved by Stevenson to keep Alvernia at 1-0.
• Both teams traded the ball back and forth for a majority of the second half. Stevenson's best opportunity to even things up came in the 74th minute with two quick shots on Evan Solley, who had ventured out to the top of the box. Solley stopped both to keep the Mustangs off the board.
• Alvernia prevented Stevenson from getting a shot on goal in the final ten minutes as Solley picked up his fifth shutout of the season.

• Evan Solley finished with saves and improved to 10-7-3 on the season.
