Alvernia Falls to Albertus Magnus, 2-1

Reading, Pa (February 9, 2024) - Alvernia University (11-9-2) fell to Albertus Magnus College (7-13-2) 2-1, in a non-conference women's ice hockey matchup Friday night at BodyZone. 

The Falcons held a 1-0 advantage after one period of play but the Golden Wolves leveled the score in the second to make it a 1-1 game after two. Albertus Magnus found the winner in the first two minutes of the third period to secure the 2-1 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Falcons struck first with just over five minutes remaining in the first period when Kayla Clark and Gabriella Dellacroce assisted Molly Martin on a power play goal to give Albertus Magnus a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves sent five shots at the Falcons goal with three going on target but Albertus Magnus goalie Christmas Johnson saved all three to preserve the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves found an equalizer just over seven minutes into the second period when Kathryn Palmer took the puck up the ice and fired her shot top shelf to tie the contest at one. 
  • Alvernia would continue to fire shots on net, sending ten shots on goal in the final 11 minutes of the period but Johnson saved all ten to keep the game locked at one after two periods of play. 
  • The Falcons found the winner in the first two minutes of the final period when Clark connected with Tori Walsh who put the puck in the goal to make it 2-1 with 18 minutes left to go in the contest. 
  • The Golden Wolves continued to out shoot the Falcons in the final 18 minutes of the game, firing 12 shots on net but they could not find the back of the net as the Falcons secured the 2-1 victory. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Kathryn Palmer led Alvernia with the lone goal, she recorded four shots on goal and also added four faceoff wins. 
  • Sikke Ask led with 11 faceoff wins for the Golden Wolves and went 11-15 on the night. 
  • Juliana Rodgers recorded 11 saves in net for Alvernia. 
  • Alvernia tallied 36 shots on goal compared to Albertus Magnus's 13. 
  • Alvernia went 40-57 in the faceoff circle tonight.

  • The Golden Wolves are back in action tomorrow when they host the Falcons for game two of the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 2:00 PM. The Alvernia Women's Ice Hockey team will honor the 2024 senior class prior to the game. Seniors Shae Hudec, Lexi Hooper and Jasmine Hughes will be honored prior to puck drop.
