Alvernia Comes Up Just Short to Albright, 12-11

Reading, Pa. (April 27, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-12, 0-7) came up just short in its season finale as the Golden Wolves fell 12-11 to Albright College (6-11, 1-6) on Saturday afternoon at Albright. 

The Golden Wolves trailed by two with four and a half minutes to play. A goal from Jack Keenan brought Alvernia back within one with 3:45 to play. Alvernia had the final look of the game, but the Golden Wolves turned it over with 20 seconds to play. Albright then ran out the clock to come away with the 12-11 win.

How it Happened
  • Albright led 2-0 through the first six and a half minutes before Alvernia got on the board with a man-up goal from Zackary Moats off the assist of Jack Keenan. Alvernia then evened it at 2-2 with a goal from Ryan Gilman with 4:26 to play in the first quarter.
  • A goal from Keenan off the assist of Ethan McManus made it three straight for Alvernia as the Golden Wolves took the 3-2 lead with 3:27 to play.
  • The Lions evened it up at 3-3 just under a minute into the second quarter, but Alvernia retook the lead, 4-3, 30 seconds later on a goal from Kyle Patton.
  • The back and forth continued as both teams traded goals - including a man-up goal from Kyle Moats. But, Albright took the 6-5 lead going into the half.
  • After a scoreless eight minutes to open the third quarter, Alvernia tied it back up at 6-6 with a goal from Kyle Moats.
  • After another Albright goal, Kyle Moats kept it rolling with another goal to make it 7-7 with 2:29 to play in the quarter. But, Albright scored two straight to end the quarter and take a 9-7 lead into the final frame.
  • The Golden Wolves got back within one on a goal from Tanner Caka off a fantastic cut through, but Albright retook a two goal lead, 10-8, with 11:13 to play.
  • Alvernia stayed in the fight and tied it up at 10-10 with 7:42 to play with goals from Jack Keenan and Colin McFadyen. But, Albright retook the two goal lead, 12-10, with 4:38 to play following two quick goals.
  • Alvernia once again got back within one on a goal from Jack Keenan with 3:45 to play. Alvernia then made a defensive stop behind a save from Dane Sabarese to give Alvernia back the ball for the final shot. The Golden Wolves had a look with under 30 seconds to play, but, ultimately turned it over as Albright sealed the 12-11 win.
