Reading, Pa. (April 28, 2024) - Alvernia University (4-8, 3-3) fell just shy to Messiah University (7-8, 5-1) on Sunday afternoon as the Falcons edged the Golden Wolves, 5-4, in the MAC Commonwealth women's tennis regular season finale at the Governor Mifflin Courts.

Today marked Alvernia's third loss in conference play by a 5-4 decision. Despite the loss, Alvernia is in the MAC Commonwealth postseason as the #4 seed and will face #1 Albright on Tuesday.

Alvernia took a 2-1 lead into singles play following wins from Leah Bouchard and Lily Summerson at #1 doubles and Jillian Laughman and Monica Nguyen at #2 doubles.

Bouchard then won #1 singles 6-2, 6-1 to pick up her tenth singles win of the season, and Laughman grabbed a win at #2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. But, the Golden Wolves were held without a point in the final four singles matches as Messiah picked up four points to take the 5-4 win.

Alvernia will take on Albright at Albright on Tuesday afternoon at a time to be announced. The Lions went undefeated in MAC Commonwealth regular season action to pick up the #1 seed in the tournament.
