Golden Wolves Fall to Eagles, 2-1

Huntingdon, Pa (September 11, 2024) - Alvernia University (2-2) dropped a non-conference women's soccer matchup to Juniata College (3-1-1) 2-1, Wednesday night at Juniata.

Juniata scored two second half goals, including the game winner in the 80th minute to take down the Golden Wolves 2-1.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves struck early in the first half after a Madeline Combs goal in the third minute. Haley Dougherty played a corner in for the Golden Wolves that found the foot of McDonough, McDonough then fired a shot that was blocked but fell to Olivia Swartz. Swartz then flicked it back to Combs who put it in the back of the net to make it 1-0 Alvernia.
  • Alvernia would send four more shots at the Juniata net in the final 30 minutes of the half but could not find a second goal as they took a 1-0 advantage into the half.
  • The Golden Wolves had two chances in the first ten minutes of the second half with Dougherty recording a shot on goal and Tayler Flaherty sending a shot high.
  • The Eagles leveled the score in the 65th minute when Savanna Murray assisted Amelia Yordy to tie the game at one.
  • Juniata grabbed the lead with ten minutes to go in the contest when Sydney Simpson assisted Haydn Paxton to make it 2-1 Eagles.
  • Swartz and Kayln Keen both had chances in the final ten minutes and both sent shots on goal but could not find the back of the net as Juniata held on for the 2-1 victory.
