Alvernia Falls to Washington, 3-0

Chestertown, Md (September 17, 2024) - Alvernia University (8-3) dropped a non-conference women's volleyball matchup to Washington College (6-4) 3-0, Tuesday evening at Washington College. 

The Shorewomen took all three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-23 to secure the 3-0 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Washington grabbed the early 7-3 lead before the Golden Wolves bounced back and tied the first set at 11. Julianna McGlone, Lindsay Ferguson, Hailey McDevitt and Kayleigh Kehler all recorded kills for Alvernia. 
  • Both the Shorewomen and the Golden Wolves traded points back and forth before the Golden Wolves tallied two straight points to tie the set at 18 late. 
  • Washington then tallied a 7-3 scoring run to take the first set 25-21. 
  • The Shorewomen jumped out to another lead in the beginning of the second set, this one a 12-9 lead after a strong start. Kehler, McDevitt and Cierra Roberts all recorded kills for Alvernia. 
  • The Golden Wolves and the Shorewomen split the next 12 points at an even 6-6 run as Washington held a three point, 18-15 lead. 
  • A Patricia Falar ace and kills from McGlone and Ferguson saw the Golden Wolves tie the set at 18. 
  • Washington then ripped off another scoring stretch to end the set, this one a 7-4 run as they took the second set 25-22 and grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match. 
  • Alvernia were the ones that took the lead early in the third set, scoring nine of the first 13 points of the set to take a 9-4 lead. McGlone recorded three kills during the stretch for Alvernia. 
  • Washington then bounced back and tallied a 10-5 scoring run to tie the set at 14. The Shorewomen then grabbed five of the next nine points to make it 19-18. 
  • Washington closed the third set with a 6-5 scoring run and took the set 25-23 and secured the 3-0 victory in the match.
