Alvernia Falls to Franklin and Marshall, 4-0

Reading, Pa (September 18, 2024) - Franklin and Marshall College (2-4) scored three fourth quarter goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Alvernia University (4-2) Wednesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia. 

The Diplomats held a slim, 1-0 advantage after three quarters of play but F&M then netted three goals in under five minutes to secure the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Diplomats were the only ones to record a shot in the first quarter, ripping six shots at the Alvernia goal but Lexi Boettcher made four saves to keep it a 0-0 game after 15 minutes. 
  • F&M then grabbed the lead in the first six minutes of the second quarter after Annie Malatesta assisted Keira Boensch to give the Diplomats a 1-0 lead. 
  • Alvernia fired three shots at the F&M net with all three going on goal but Kathryn Palmer and Gianna DeGregory's shots were saved and F&M's Malatesta made a defensive save on an Ana Jones shot as the Diplomats took a 1-0 lead into the half. 
  • Franklin and Marshall recorded the only four shots in the third quarter but Boettcher made three saves to keep it a one goal game heading into the final 15 minutes of play. 
  • The Diplomats broke it open in the fourth quarter with three goals in less than five minutes to secure the 4-0 victory.
