Golden Wolves Run By Lions, 114-73

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-1) outscored Penn State Berks (0-4) 61-35 in the first half and never looked back as the Golden Wolves defeated the Lions 114-73 on Wednesday night in non-conference men's basketball action at PSU Berks.

After a back and forth opening six minutes, Alvernia went on a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes to jump out to a 38-22 lead. Alvernia outscored the Lions 23-13 the rest of the half to take a 61-53 advantage into the break. Alvernia kept its foot on the gas through the second half to come away with the 114-73 win.

Alvernia's 114 points scored was the most scored by Alvernia since it scored 116 in a 116-47 win over Johnson and Wales in February of 1995. That point total still stands as an Alvernia record for most points scored in a game.

How it Happened

Dearry scored six for Alvernia during the run, and Long-Mtume added five.
  • The Golden Wolves continued to push the Lions. Stanley, Cottrell, and Dearry quickly combined for eight points for Alvernia in just a minute to give the Golden Wolves a 20 point advantage, 46-26, with five minutes to play in the half.
  • The Golden Wolves outscored the Lions 15-9 the remainder of the half, including a buzzer-beater three by Cottrell for the second straight game, to take a 61-35 lead into the break. Dearry led Alvernia with 21 first half points, going 7-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-5 from 3-point range. Alvernia shot 75% from deep in the first 20 minutes, going 9-for-12.
  • A Stanley 3-pointer started the second half for Alvernia, and, four minutes into the half Alvernia took a 30-point lead, 71-41, on an Elijah Hamilton layup. The Golden Wolves never took their foot off the gas, taking a 37-point lead, 88-51, on a Mason Jones Layup with 10:30 to go.
  • The Golden Wolves subbed in the bench and a Blaize Eldgridge layup and Yadiel Cruz 3-pointer gave Avernia the 40-point lead, 99-59, with 6:40 to play. Alvernia then surpassed the century mark on a Long-Mtume layup to make it 101-61 with six minutes to play.
