Golden Wolves Down Lions in Overtime, 74-69

Middletown, Pa. (Nov. 21, 2025) - Alvernia University (3-1) outscored Penn State Harrisburg (0-5) 11-6 in overtime to secure a 74-69 win over the Lions on Friday night in non-conference women's basketball action at Penn State Harrisburg.

The Golden Wolves trailed the Lions, who were hot from deep early, 17-10 through the first quarter. Alvernia battled back and took a 35-32 lead into the half. The second half was back-and-forth, with Alvernia taking a 63-62 lead on a go-ahead layup with seven seconds to play. But, Alvernia was knocked for a shooting foul and the Lions converted one of their two chances to send the game into overtime.

With the game tied at 67-67 with 2:25 to play in overtime, Kyla Reed hit a go-ahead 3-pointer, 70-67, with 1:26 to play. Reed then hit a pair of clutch free throws late to secure the 74-69 win.

How it Happened
  • After a scoreless first minute, Penn State got on the board with a 3-pointer. The Lions then added a second 3-pointer a minute and a half later to take a 6-0 lead through the first two and a half minutes.
  • A layup from Taryn Woodson put Alvernia on the board, and another Woodson layup with a made and-one free throw made it a one point game, 6-5, with 6:30 to play in the opening quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves then went cold for three minutes as the Lions built their lead up to eight, 13-5. The Lions then took a 10 point, 17-7, lead with 36 seconds to play in the quarter. But, a late Samantha Wade 3-pointer for Alvernia made it a 17-10 game going into the second quarter. The Lions scored 15 of their 17 points in the first quarter off of 3-pointers, going 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.
  • Alvernia closed within five, 19-14, a minute into the second quarter on a Woodson layup. The Golden Wolves kept closing in throughout the early parts of the second quarter, and a Jordyn Ingelido 3-pointer with 7:13 to play made it a one possession game, 22-19.
  • Back-to-back layups from Woodson and Jennah DeGout tied the game up at 25-25 as the quarter approached its midpoint. Both teams then went without a field goal for two and a half minutes, but a driving layup from Olivia Burke got things rolling again and gave Alvernia the 28-25 lead.
  • A 3-pointer from the Lions evened the game at 28-28, but Alvernia took the lead right back with a DeGout layup and another layup from Burke with 1:15 to play in the half.
  • A 3-pointer from Grace Dobrzynski made it a six point game, 35-29, in favor of Alvernia with under a minute to play. But, the Lions hit another 3-pointer with 34 seconds to play in the half to make it a 35-32 game going into the break. The Lions shot 7-for-11 from 3-point range in the first half, accounting for 21 of their 32 first half points.
  • The Lions scored the opening five points of the third quarter to take a 37-35 lead before Alvernia tied it again at 37-37 on an Ingelido jumper. The back-and-forth ensued from there. Alvernia held a slight edge, 45-42, following a Ryleigh Poole 3-pointer with five minutes to play in the half.

The Lions could not take advantage though, scoring just three of their own during Alvernia's scoreless stretch as the game moved into the fourth quarter with Alvernia leading 48-45.
  • Alvernia pushed its lead back up to five, 52-47, through two minutes of fourth quarter action following layups from DeGout and Poole. But, another scoreless stretch by Alvernia allowed the Lions to tie the game up 52-52 with 4:43 to play.

Both sides then went scoreless for a minute before the Lions took the 62-61 off an Alvernia turnover with just under 30 seconds to play.
  • After a combined three timeouts, Alvernia retook the lead, 63-62, on a putback layup by DeGout with seven seconds to play. • After a trading of points and two ties, Alvernia broke the 67-67 tie on a go-ahead 3-pointer by Reed with 1:26 to play in the overtime period. Alvernia got some breathing room off an Ingelido jumper following a Reed steal, but the Lions closed back within three on a pair of made free throws with 14 seconds to play.
