Alvernia Downs Lehman, 78-72

Bronx, NY (Dec. 29, 2025) - In a game that saw 12 lead changes and another 12 ties, Alvernia University (4-6) scored the go-ahead points with four minutes to play and held onto a 78-72 win over Lehman College (6-6) on Monday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action at Lehman.

The Golden Wolves held a narrow 38-37 lead going into the half, but Lehman came out of the half firing and took a 50-41 lead through the first five minutes of the third quarter. Alvernia chipped back and regained the lead in the final seconds of the third frame. The back-and-forth continued on for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter until Jennah DeGout - playing in her hometown - tied the game on a driving layup and drew the foul. She then gave Alvernia the lead on the converted free throw, and the Golden Wolves held off the Lightning from there.

DeGout finished with an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double. Senior Jordyn Ingelido led all scorers with a career-high 21 points.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board with a layup by Taryn Woodson on Alvernia's opening possession. Alvernia then took a 3-0 lead on a Jordyn Ingelido free throw to close out the opening minute. The Lightning got on the board with a layup 90 seconds into the contest, and took a 4-3 lead two minutes into the game. The back-and-forth ensued from there.
  • A Jennah DeGout putback layup with 5:14 to play in the opening quarter made it a one point game, 10-9, in favor of the Lightning. But, DeGout's layup sparked a 10-2 run for Alvernia over the next two minutes as Alvernia pushed its lead to 17-12 with 3:13 to play. Olivia Burke led Alvernia during the brief run with five points, three of which came off Alvernia's only 3-pointer of the quarter.
  • Alvernia held onto its lead for another two and a half minutes. But, Lehman retook the lead, 20-19, on a layup off of an Alvernia turnover with 30 seconds to play in the quarter. Lehman pushed it to a 22-19 lead off of another Alvernia turnover, but a DeGout layup marked the final points of the opening frame and brought Alvernia within one, 22-21, going into the second quarter.
  • The Lightning took a 24-21 lead off a layup to open the second quarter, and Alvernia tied it up at 24-24 on a Burke 3-pointer. Later in the quarter, Alvernia took a 30-29 lead on a Woodson layup with 6:30 to play in the half.
  • The Golden Wolves took a 33-31 lead with five minutes to play on an Ingelido free throw. Both sides then went scoreless for three and a half minutes. Lehman got things going again on a jumper to even the game at 33-33, and Alvernia answered with a Woodson layup to take a 35-33 lead.
  • The Lightning evened the game once again at 35-35, and Alvernia once again answered with a DeGout layup and free throw to take a 38-35 lead with 30 seconds to play in the half. Lehman scored the final points of the half on a layup in the final seconds, but Alvernia took the 38-37 lead into the break. The first half saw nine lead changes and four ties.
  • Lehman came out of the break and opened the third quarter on a 13-3 run through the first five and a half minutes of the quarter to take a 50-41 lead.
  • The Lightning then went cold, and Alvernia responded. A layup by DeGout, pair of made free throws by Alani White, and a jumper by Ingelido off a Ryleigh Poole steal got Alvernia within three, 50-47, with 3:38 to play in the quarter.
  • The Golden Wolves were held without a field goal the rest of the quarter, but shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line even the game at 54-54 going into the final ten minutes.
  • After Lehman led or held the tie for the first two and a half minutes of the fourth quarter, Alverniat retook the lead, 61-60, on a 3-pointer by Ingelido. The lead did not last long as Lehman answered with a layup to take a 62-61 lead with 7:10 to play.
  • Alvernia tied the game at 67-67 on a DeGout layup that drew the foul with four minutes to play. DeGout converted the layup to give Alvernia the lead, and the Golden Wolves held onto it for good.
  • The Lightning got back within one twice, but a White jumper with a minute to go gave Alvernia the 74-71 lead. The Golden Wolves then converted four free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the 78-72 win.
