Golden Wolves Down Knights, 5-2

Aston, Pa. (Dec. 5, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Ice Hockey (6-3, 5-2) opened the weekend series with Neumann University (2-7, 2-5) with a 5-2 win over the Knights on Friday night in MAC Women's Ice Hockey action at Neumann.

But, Alvernia answered with three straight goals to close out the period and take a 4-2 lead into the third. Alvernia added an insurance goal late in the third period to secure the 5-2 victory.

How it Happened
The Golden Wolves peppered the Knights from the jump, but Neumann held Alvernia off for the majority of the opening period. After a brief 4v4, Alvernia had 90 seconds of a power-play opportunity, but the Golden Wolves could not convert. Alvernia then broke through the Knight's defense on a goal by Erin Schutt off the assist of Marissa Caswell with four minutes to play in the opening period. Alvernia outshot the Knights 16-3 in the first frame.

Neumann evened the game at 1-1 just over a minute into the second period and took a 2-1 lead through three minutes on a power-play goal. The Knights held the lead for 12 minutes before Alvernia scored two goals in 24 seconds to retake the lead, 3-2. Kathryn Palmer scored the first of the quick burst, followed by the go-ahead goal by Riley Hill. Hill then connected with Sofia King two minutes later to give Alvernia the 4-2 lead, which it held going into the third period.

The Golden Wolves then killed off a power-play in the third period and held Neumann to four shots on goal in the final 20 minutes. Alvernia also added an insurance goal with four minutes to play off the stick of Palmer on a power-play goal for the 5-2 final.
