Wilkes-Barre, Pa (March 1, 2025) - #4 Alvernia University (14-10-2) dropped a MAC women's ice hockey semifinal matchup to #1 Wilkes University (21-4-1) by a score of 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Wilkes' Toyota SportsPlex.

The Golden Wolves and Colonels were tied at zero after the first period but Wilkes netted three goals in the second period and two more in the third to seal the 5-2 victory.

How it Happened
  • A scoreless first period was controlled by Wilkes who fired 17 shots on goal to Alvernia's four, but Stephanie Skorupa saved all 17 of them to keep the game tied at zero heading into the first intermission.
  • Wilkes then opened the scoring in the first ten minutes of the second period to grab a 3-0 lead. Lida Laitnen netted the first goal for Wilkes in the first three minutes and then Rachel Morey and Haylee Bouchard tallied goals two minutes apart from each other to take the three goal lead into the final intermission.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed one back in the first five minutes of the final period when Kayla Moriarty and Addy Gularte assisted Khenzie Connick to make it 3-1 Wilkes.
  • The Colonels responded less than a minute later when Bouchard netted her second goal of the day to push the lead back to three, 4-1.
  • Wilkes tallied its final insurance goal in the final six minutes of the game when Hannah Franz netted an unassisted goal that made it 5-1 Colonels.
  • Emma Hart netted a power play goal to cap her impressive first year season but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves fell to the Colonels, 5-2.
