Alvernia Drops ECAC Quarterfinal to McDaniel, 52-39

Erie, Pa (March 8, 2025) - Alvernia University (13-13) fell to McDaniel University (18-9) 52-39, Saturday afternoon in a ECAC women's basketball quarterfinal matchup hosted by Penn State Behrend. 

The Golden Wolves held the 20-15 lead at the half but McDaniel outscored the Golden Wolves 37-19 in the second half to secure the victory. 

How it Happened 
  • A low scoring first quarter was highlighted by the Golden Wolves grabbing the 11-7 lead after the first ten minutes. Jennah DeGout led the way for Alvernia with five of Alvernia's 11, Olivia Burke followed with three and Ryleigh Poole tacked on two. 
  • McDaniel came out of the quarter break and tallied four straight points to tie the game at 11 but the Golden Wolves responded with a 9-4 scoring run over the final seven minutes of the first half to take a five point, 20-15 lead into the halftime break. 
  • McDaniel grabbed the lead for the first time all game at the end of the third quarter after outscoring the Golden Wolves 23-11 in the third quarter and took the 38-31 lead into the final quarter of play. Paige O'Brien led with five points for the Golden Wolves during the quarter, DeGout followed with four. 
  • The Green Terror continued to control the second half and outscored Alvernia 14-8 in the fourth quarter to secure the 52-39 victory over the Golden Wolves and advance to the ECAC semifinals. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Paige O'Brien led the Golden Wolves with 11 points, two rebounds, one steal and knocked down three shots from beyond the arc. 
  • Jennah DeGout followed with nine and seven rebounds, Olivia Burke added seven and five boards. 

The loss ends the season for the Golden Wolves who finished with a 13-13 overall record and a 7-7 record in the MAC Commonwealth.
