Smith Leads Golden Wolves to Season Finale Victory Over Lions, 18-10

Senior Sherrin Smith Nets Career High Nine Goals to Eclipse 100 Career Goals

Reading, Pa (April 26, 2025) - Alvernia University (4-13, 2-5) tied its season high in goals scored with an 18-10 victory over crosstown rivals Albright College (5-12,1-6) Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth women's lacrosse matchup on Senior Day at Alvernia. 

Alvernia senior attacker Sherrin Smith needed eight goals to finish her career with 100 goals and she did one better. Smith netted a career high nine goals to end her career with 101 goals and also added an assist to record a career high ten points against the Lions. Smith became the 15th Alvernia Women's Lacrosse player in program history to record 100 career goals. 

The Golden Wolves held a 8-3 lead over the Lions at the half and netted ten goals in the second half compared to Albright's seven to secure the victory. The win makes it two in a row for the Golden Wolves against their rivals. 

How it Happened
  • Albright grabbed the lead first in the opening quarter with a goal in the first two minutes of the game but the Golden Wolves responded with two goals from Sherrin Smith and a Hannah Tyler goal to swing the lead in Alvernia's favor, 3-1. 
  • The Lions pulled one back with just under seven to go in the first quarter to make it 3-2 but Alvernia bounced back yet again with two goals in the final four minutes of the quarter to take a 5-2 lead after one. Sherrin Smith sealed the hat trick with an unassisted goal and Gracie Brower assisted Tyler on a player-up opportunity. 
  • The Golden Wolves then ripped off three straight goals in the first seven minutes of the second quarter to push the lead to six, 8-2. Lindsay Kerchner assisted Tyler for her third goal of the game and Smith netted two more unassisted goals for the Golden Wolves. 
  • Albright grabbed one back in the final five minutes of the second quarter but it would be the last goal of the half as the Golden Wolves took an 8-3 lead at the half. 
  • Albright netted the first goal of the third quarter to make it a four goal, 8-4 Alvernia lead but the Golden Wolves responded yet again with two more goals in the next five minutes after Brower and Smith both found the back of the net to push the lead back to six, 10-4. 
  • Alvernia and Albright would trade goals back and forth over the final six minutes of the third quarter with Tyler and Kerchner both finding the back of the net for Alvernia as they preserved its six goal, 12-6 lead heading into the final quarter of play. 
  • The Golden Wolves tacked on two more goals in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter after Sophia Ruocco and Smith netted goals but Albright then ripped off four straight goals to pull within four, 14-10 with eight minutes to go. 
  • Alvernia then put the game to bed in the final seven minutes, netting four goals to push it to an eight goal lead and secure the 18-10 victory. Kerchner added her second of the day, Hailey Miller got in on the senior day scoring action with a goal thanks to a Ruocco assist and Smith added two more to her tally, including her 100th career goal. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Sherrin Smith led the way with ten points on nine goals and one assist and also picked up a career high 12 draw controls. Both Smith's nine goals and ten points are a career high. 
  • Hannah Tyler followed with four goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 
  • Lindsay Kerchner netted two goals and added two assists and finished with four points. 
  • Gracie Brower also tallied four points with a goal and a team high three assists. Hailey Miller and Sophia Ruocco both scored goals and Mia Martin recorded an assist as well. 
  • Kayleigh Kight recorded six draw controls, four ground balls and three turnovers. Cailyn Hawley caused a team high four turnovers and also grabbed four ground balls. 
  • Hannah Wolfe rounded out her career as a Golden Wolf with seven saves and the win in goal for Alvernia. 

The victory over Albright marks the end of the season for the Golden Wolves.
