Golden Wolves Down Cougars, 7-3

Wilkes Barre, Pa. (January 10, 2026) - Alvernia University (8-6-0, 6-4-0) jumped out to a four goal lead after the first two periods and did not look back as they took down Misericordia University (1-11-1, 1-7-1), 7-3, Saturday night in a MAC men's ice hockey matchup at the Toyota SportsPlex.

Alvernia grabbed a 4-0 lead after the first two periods of hockey and then tacked on three more goals in the third period for insurance en route to the 7-3 victory over the Cougars to secure the weekend sweep.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves opened up the scoring in the first three minutes of the first period after Leo Cabulis tallied an unassisted goal to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0 early.
  • Alvernia then tacked on a second goal in the final three minutes of the first period thanks to a Frazer Dodd unassisted goal on an Alvernia power play to send the Golden Wolves into the room with a 2-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.
  • The Golden Wolves came out and tacked on a third goal four minutes into the second period after Anthony Piccininno assisted Joey Arnold to make it a 3-0 Alvernia lead.
  • Piccininno then made it a four goal advantage with 11 minutes to go in the period thanks to an assist from Gabriel Flammia to send the Golden Wolves into the final intermission with a four goal lead.
  • Alvernia pushed it to a five goal lead three minutes into the final period of action thanks to a Vincent Servizzi unassisted goal that made it 5-0 Golden Wolves.
  • The Cougars grabbed one back seven minutes later to make it a 5-1 game but Alvernia responded with two goals in the next six minutes after Arnold notched his second of the game and Matthew Henry added his name to the score sheet to make it a 7-1 Alvernia lead.
