Tobin, McLellan Lead Alvernia to 3-1 Day at Ursinus Manganaro Duals

Collegeville, Pa. (Jan. 10, 2026) - Alvernia Men's Wrestling returned to action from the holiday break on Saturday and went 3-1 at the Ursinus College Manganaro Duals.

Alvernia picked up wins over McDaniel, #25 Ursinus College, and Trinity College. Alvernia's lone loss of the day came to #17 United State Coast Guard Academy.

Both Quinn Tobin and Hayden McLellan went 4-0 on the day for the Golden Wolves. Tobin won his bouts via a fall, a technical fall, and two decisions. McLellan, who was ranked #14 in the nation in the latest NWCA poll, went 4-0 on the day with two falls and two decisions.

Recaps of each match are below. The Golden Wolves are back in action next weekend at the 2026 MAC Men's Wrestling Championship, hosted by Messiah University. 

Match One: Alvernia 27, McDaniel 18
The Green Terror jumped out to a 9-0 lead through the first two bouts, but Alvernia got on the board with a pin in 39 seconds by Quinn Tobin against Andrew Dolezel in the 141 pound bout. McDaniel then extended its lead to 15-6 in the 149 pound match before Alvernia rattled off five straight wins.

A 12-5 decision by Ian Vitalo over Andre Allen at 157 pounds brought Alvernia back within six, 15-9. Alvernia then got within one, 15-14, on a 19-2 technical fall by Luke Thomas over AJ Kuntz. The Golden Wolves then took the lead, 18-15, with William Knapp recording a 14-2 major decision over Ty Simpson at 174 pounds. 

#14 Hayden McLellan then added six on for Alvernia with a 2:08 fall over Alex Taylor at 184 pounds. Jason Chiodi made it a 27-15 match with an 11-6 decision at 197 pounds. Alvernia dropped the 285 pound bout, but Alvernia's lead was too much for the Green Terror to overcome as the Golden Wolves secured the 27-18 win to open the day. 

Match Two: #17 United States Coast Guard Academy 29, Alvernia 12
The Bears took a 3-0 lead with a decision in the 125 pound bout to open the match. But, Alvernia took the lead, 6-3, with Steven Harris recording a fall in 3:55 over Owen Woolcott. The Golden Wolves then extended their lead to 9-3 as Quinn Tobin recorded a 6-2 decision at 141 pounds over Dom Moyer. But, the Bears rattled off the next 18 points with four straight wins to take a 21-9 lead over the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia got three points back as #14 Hayden McLellan defeated #13 Gabe Monroe via an 8-4 decision. But the Bears secured the final four points of the match for the 29-12 win over the Golden Wolves.

Match Three: Alvernia 22, #25 Ursinus 21
Alvernia took a 6-0 lead over the host Bears with Ethan Staples recording a fall in 4:49 over Gabe Tulone. Ursinus got four points back on a major decision win at 133 pounds, but Alvernia extended its lead to 9-4 with a 6-4 win by Quinn Tobin over Andrew Schaen at 141 pounds.

The Golden Wolves made it a 15-4 match with Aidan Swann recording a fall in just over two minutes against Evan Shriberg at 149 pounds. After the Bears picked up five points via a technical fall at 157 pounds, Alvernia pushed its lead up to 19-9 with Luke Thomas grabbing a 14-4 major decision at 165 pounds.

A fall for the Bears at 174 pounds brought them within four, 19-15. Alvernia grabbed some breathing room with #14 Hayden McLellan earning a 2-0 decision at 184 pounds to make it a 22-15 match. The Bears then picked up four points at 197 pounds to get within three, 22-19. Ursinus then won the heavyweight bout via a decision to tie the match at 22-22. But, Ursinus was deducted a team-point to give Alvernia the 22-21 win.

Match Four: Alvernia 27, Trinity College (Conn.) 13
The Bantams took an 10-0 lead to open the match, but the Golden Wolves outscored Trinity 27-3 the rest of the way.

Quinn Tobin got Alvernia on the board with a 15-0 technical fall in just under four minutes, and Ian Vitalo followed with a 20-3 technical fal of his own to even the match at 10-10. The Golden Wolves then picked up back-to-back wins via decision by Luke Thomas and William Knapp.

Alvernia made it a 22-10 match with #14 Hayden McLellan pinning Sebastian Hiller in just over two minutes, and a 18-2 technical fall by Jason Chiodi made it a 27-10 match. The Bantams picked up the final points of the match with a 7-3 decision at 285 pounds, but the Golden Wolves secured the 27-13 win.
