Golden Wolves Run by Monarchs, 6-1

Pittson, PA (Jan. 30, 2026) - Alvernia University (9-8, 8-7) scored five unanswered goals to secure a 6-1 win over King's College (1-18, 1-14) on Friday night in MAC Women's Ice Hockey action in Pittston.

Alvernia took an early 1-0 lead in the first period before the Monarchs evened the game at 1-1 with a late power-play goal to close out the first period. The Golden Wolves then posted three goals in the second period to break the tie and take a 4-1 lead. Alvernia capped off the night with two goals in the third for the 6-1 win.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves peppered the Monarchs early and got awarded a power-play five minutes into the contest. Alvernia came up short on the power-play, but got on the board a minute later. Kathryn Palmer and Gillian Evans found Riley Hill, and Hill buried the puck into net to put Alvernia up 1-0 through eight minutes into the action.
  • The Golden Wolves outshot the Monarchs through the first frame, but King's evened the game at 1-1 with 16 seconds to play in the period on a power-play goal. Alvernia outshot the Monarchs 25-4 overall in the first period, 19-3 on goal.
  • Alvernia broke the game open in the second period. The Golden Wolves broke the 1-1 tie just over three minutes into the period with Noelle De Magistris scoring on a power-play goal off the assist of Khenzie Connick. Two and a half minutes later, Alvernia made it a 3-1 game with Alexis Oliveira getting in on the scoring off the assists of Lauren Jascewsky and Evans.
  • With eight and a half minutes to play in the second frame, Erin Schutt converted Alvernia's second power-play goal of the period to put Alvernia up 4-1. The Golden Wolves allowed just two shots on net the rest of the period as they took the three goal advantage into the final 20 minutes.
  • Alvernia tacked onto its lead just under four minutes into the third period as Oliveira scored her second of the night, and Palmer and Evans added their second and third assists, respectively. 
  • The Golden Wolves kept King's at bay for the remainder of the period, holding the Monarchs to just six shots on goal. Alvernia then added its sixth and final goal of the night with Marissa Caswell scoring in the final three minutes off the assists of Emma Hart and Kayla Moriarty to seal the 6-1 lead for the Golden Wolves.
Inside the Box Score
  • Gillian Evans led Alvernia with three points off of three assists. Alexis Oliveira finished with two points off of two goals. 
  • Kathryn Palmer finished with two assists and went 19-for-22 on the faceoff.
  • Alvernia's defense allowed just 13 shots on goal by the Monarchs. Belle Derosiers made 12 saves in net to pick up her first career win.
