Alvernia Falls to Neumann, 3-1

Aston, Pa. (October 21) – On Wednesday evening, the Alvernia University men's soccer team fell 3-1 to the Neumann University Knights. Graeson Reese scored the lone goal for the Golden Wolves, but Neumann's consistent offensive pressure proved too much for Alvernia on the road.

How It Happened

Neumann came out strong to open the first half, firing a shot in the opening minute. Alvernia responded with a shot of its own in the fifth minute. After an 11-minute lull, the Knights broke the deadlock with a goal in the 16th minute to take an early 1-0 lead. One minute later, Alvernia earned a corner kick but could not capitalize on the opportunity.
Neumann extended its lead in the 21st minute, making it 2-0. Despite the early deficit, the Golden Wolves continued to attack, and their efforts paid off in the 26th minute when Graeson Reese found the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1. Following back-to-back shots from the Knights, Alvernia put a shot on target in the 37th minute, but the Neumann goalkeeper made the save. Two minutes later, the Knights converted a penalty kick to extend their advantage to 3-1. Chris Hile fired a late shot for the Golden Wolves, but Neumann maintained its two-goal lead heading into halftime.
Neumann carried its momentum into the second half, firing a shot in the opening minutes before an Alvernia defender blocked the attempt. Two minutes later, Jackson Taliani sent a shot wide left. Over the next 12 minutes, the Golden Wolves struggled to generate offense as Neumann recorded four shots. Michael Griffith III made a key save on a shot on target in the 60th minute to keep the score at 3-1.
The Knights earned a corner kick in the 64th minute but could not convert. Neumann continued to apply pressure, recording five shots over a three-minute span. In the 74th and 79th minutes, Aidan Courtney and Brenden Corpus each put a shot on target, but both attempts were saved. The Knights added two more shots on goal in the 86th minute, but a save and a missed attempt kept the score unchanged. Alvernia was unable to mount a late offensive push, falling 3-1 in the conference road matchup.
