Alvernia University Athletics

Reading, Pa. (October 27, 2026) - Alvernia University (4-10-3, 0-6-2) fell to #15 Messiah University (14-1-2, 6-0-1), 6-1, Tuesday night in a MAC Commonwealth men's soccer matchup at Alvernia. 

The Falcons netted three goals in the first half and added three more goals in the second 45 minutes en route to the win. Alvernia's Josh Ertel netted the lone goal for the Golden Wolves. 

How it Happened 

• After a scoreless first 20 minutes of action, the Falcons broke the game open in the 24th minute when Owen Resch put the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0. 
• The Falcons doubled their lead two minutes later when Resch assisted Elijah Perry to make it 2-0 before Messiah tacked on a third goal before the half in the 34th minute when Resch tallied his second of the half. 
• Messiah added two more goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half before the Golden Wolves got on the board in the 68th minute when Joseph Washington played a through ball to Josh Ertel who ran onto it and buried the ball into the back of the net for the Golden Wolves. 
• The Falcons recorded one final insurance goal in the 79th minute to secure the 6-1 victory.

• Josh Ertel netted the goal for Alvernia and Joseph Washington recorded the assist. 
• Jackson Taliani, Jake Salinas and Chase Bartman all recorded shots for the Golden Wolves.
