Golden Wolves Host Devils in Final Home Game of the Season

Reading, Pa. (October 30, 2026) - Alvernia University (4-3, 4-2) will host FDU-Florham (0-7, 0-6) Saturday afternoon at 12:00 PM in a MAC football clash at Alvernia University.

The matchup against the Devils will come as the final home game for the Golden Wolves and will kick off a Halloween triple header at Alvernia. Alvernia Football will also recognize its 2026 senior class prior to kickoff on Saturday.

The Golden Wolves come into their final game on home turf with a 4-3 overall record and a 4-2 record in the MAC. All four of Alvernia's wins have come in the last five games of the season including a massive 22-21 victory over defending conference champions Eastern last weekend. The Devils roll into Reading with a 0-7 overall record and a 0-6 record in conference but come into the game having never lost to the Golden Wolves in the previous seven matchups and have a 27 point average margin of victory. Look for the red hot Golden Wolves to put a stop to that run and go out on a high note in their final home game of the 2026 season.

Scouting the Golden Wolves

Alvernia heads into the weekend after pulling off the biggest win in program history last weekend when they took down the defending conference champions, Eastern, 22-21. The Golden Wolves recorded 339 yards of total offense with 307 of that coming in the pass game last week. Alvernia quarterback Sawyer Esbenshade threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Yon Anderson and Zakai Smullen both went over 100 yards receiving on the day. The Golden Wolves defense stepped up in the run game in a big way and limited Eastern's two headed monster of Nabb and Avrilien to sub 70 yard games each, a stat that hasn't happened since the first game of the season against #24 Endicott. If the Golden Wolves look to have success this weekend against FDU-Florham, look for it to come in stopping the run first against a team that has struggled to move the ball on the ground this season.

Alvernia Keys to the Game:

Shut Down the Pass Game:
The Golden Wolves face off against an FDU-Florham team that averages 264 yards of total offense per game this season with 233 of that coming via the pass game. After an impressive effort stopping the run last week against the best rushing team in the MAC, Eastern, look for more of the same this week against the Devils. This means FDU-Floham will look to the pass game early and often, especially after posting 343 yards passing last week. Alvernia's defensive backs must sure up their coverage in the pass game coming off of a week where they allowed Eastern to put up the most yards through the air all season.

Win the Middle 30
The Golden Wolves have proved they can score points at the end of the game and have recorded 63 points in the fourth quarter or overtime this season. They have also outscored opponents 45-35 in the second and third quarters. Look for the Golden Wolves to find more success in the middle two quarters of the game this week and put more points up heading into and coming out of the half before heading into the final 15 minutes of action, where they have already proven they are capable of scoring points.

Convert on 3rd & 4th Downs
The Golden Wolves were 7-17 last week against Eastern on converting on third and fourth downs with four of those conversions coming on fourth down where they went 4-4. The Golden Wolves have to find ways to convert on third down against an FDU-Florham team that allowed King's to convert on ten of 14 attempts.

Alvernia Players to Watch:

Yon Anderson
Anderson is coming into the weekend after posting career highs in catches (8) and receiving yards (147) and also caught two touchdowns. After a breakout game, look for Esbenshade to look Anderson's way more often and if the Devils cover Anderson up, it will surely free up the likes of Zakai Smullen and Adonis Akande in the Alvernia pass game.

Adonis Dixon
Dixon comes into the week after a frustrating game last week against Eastern. Dixon only recorded 29 yards rushing on 12 attempts against the Eagles, look for the Alvernia offense to lean on Dixon this week and establish the run game against an FDU-Florham team that allows 142 rushing yards per game and allowed 102 yards last weekend against King's.

Jakob Keglovits
Keglovits, a senior linebacker, has been a consistent force for the Golden Wolves defense this season and comes into the week with the second most tackles on the team with 52 including a 12 tackle performance last week. Keglovits was all over the field last weekend against the Eagles and was a primary run stopper for the Golden Wolves. Keglovits tallied seven solo tackles and a half of a tackle for a loss against the Eagles. Look for Keglovits to be at the forefront of the Golden Wolves run defense and help lead Alvernia's defense effort against the Devils.

Scouting the Devils:

FDU-Florham comes into the weekend with an 0-6 record in the MAC conference and dropped a high scoring 49-30 contest to King's last weekend in a game where they scored the most points they have scored all season. The Devils also recorded a season high 387 yards of offense including 343 yards through the pass game. FDU-Florham will look to throw the football early and often and if they expect to have any success against this Alvernia defense that allows under 200 passing yards per game.

FDU-Florham Players to Watch:

Julian Matera
Matera, a first year quarterback/punter, came into last weekend's matchup against King's as FDU-Florham's main punter before getting the nod at quarterback and he did not disappoint. Matera completed 21 of 30 passes for 343 yards passing and three touchdowns. Yes, it is a very small sample size, but if the Devils expect to come into Reading and find a way to win, it has to start with Matera at quarterback leading the offensive charge.

Nahjee Adams
Adams hauled in eight receptions for 99 yards last weekend against King's and was the primary target for Matera. Adams also comes into the weekend with the most receptions for the Devils with 30 and averages 33 receiving yards per game.

Kyree Drake
Drake only tallied two receptions last weekend against the Monarchs but one of those catches happened to come as a 52 yard touchdown reception. If the Devils find success in the pass game this week against the Golden Wolves look for Drake to make an impact, especially as a vertical threat down the field.

Christopher Babcock
Babcock, a senior defensive back, led the Devils defense last weekend with nine tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and one pass breakup. Babcock tallied five solo tackles and four assisted tackles last week and has 19 solo tackles and ten assisted tackles on the season. Look for Babcock to feed off of his performance last weekend and translate that to this week against the Golden Wolves.
