Alvernia and Albright Play to 2-2 Draw

Reading, Pa. (October 7, 2026) - Alvernia University's (4-4-3, 0-0-2) Aidan Courtney leveled the score in the 69th minute as the Golden Wolves salvaged a 2-2 draw against Albright College (4-5-2, 0-1-1) Wednesday night in a MAC Commonwealth men's soccer clash at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves led the Lions, 1-0, at the half but Albright responded with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to swing the lead in its favor, 2-1. The Golden Wolves leveled the score in the 69th minute when Josh Ertel played a ball across the face of goal that found the foot of Aidan Courtney who put the ball into the back of the net to secure the 2-2 draw for the Golden Wolves.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves and the Lions traded shots back and forth to start the game before Alvernia struck first in the 33rd minute of the game to take the lead. After an Albright foul, the Golden Wolves took the free kick quickly and Courney played a through ball to Josh Ertel who slotted the ball past the Albright keeper and into the back of the net to give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead.
  • The Lions sent three shots at the Alvernia net in the final ten minutes of the first half but Alvernia's Andrew Etkin saved two of the three to preserve the one goal Alvernia lead heading into the half
  • Albright tied the game just under five minutes into the second half when Zach Fratrik put the ball into the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game.
  • The Lions then grabbed the lead ten minutes later when Gael Velazquez and John Stum assisted Brady Divito to swing the lead in Albright's favor, 2-1, heading into the final 30 minutes of the contest.
  • The Golden Wolves responded nine minutes later when the combination of Ertel and Courtney linked up again but with Courtney finding the back of the net thanks to an Ertel assist. Ertel played a ball on the ground across the face of the goal and found the foot of Courtney and Courtney buried the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at two with 20 minutes to go.
  • Alvernia sent six shots at the Albright net in the final 20 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
