Alvernia Runs by Lions on Senior Night, 26-9

Reading, Pa. (February 13, 2026) - Alvernia University (17-3, 3-0) downed Albright College, 26-9, Friday night in a MAC men's wrestling dual on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

Prior to the dual, Alvernia Men's Wrestling honored its 2026 senior class.

The Golden Wolves recorded six of their eight wins by decision in a hard fought dual victory. The victory over the Lions also comes as the first in history between the historic rival schools.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed the early lead after Ethan Staples recorded a 5-0 decision over Hezekiah Molina-Hagdu at 125 pounds and Steven Harries tallied an 11-0 major decision over Maximus Conley at 133 pounds to take a 7-0 lead.
  • Quinn Tobin and Chance Babb both followed with hard fought decisions at 141 and 149 pounds in both of their last bouts in Alvernia's Physical Education Center. Tobin posted a 10-3 decision over Daniel Metzler at 141 pounds to make it a 10-0 Alvernia lead and Babb followed with an 8-1 decision over Seth Karpulk to make it 13-0 Golden Wolves.
  • Albright made it interesting with victories at 157 and 165 pounds thanks to a fall by #5 Trent Mahoney and a 10-6 decision by Beknazar Baiyshbekov at 165 pounds to pull Albright within four, 13-9.
  • Jake Ebaugh got Alvernia back on track with a 7-2 decision at 174 pounds over Davis Keppley which extended the Alvernia lead to seven, 16-9, and sent the dual to the 184 pound match between two top ten ranked wrestlers.
  • Alvernia's Hayden McLellan was ranked as the ninth best wrestler in the country at 184 pounds and Albright's Abdoul Akala was ranked right ahead of McLellan at eighth. The match was also a rematch of the 184 pound MAC title bout which saw Akala take the title but McLellan had other plans tonight. McLellan bested Akala by 11, 17-6, and tallied a major decision which added a much needed four team points for the Golden Wolves and made it 20-9 Alvernia.
  • Alvernia's Jason Chiodi then sealed the victory for the Golden Wolves with a hard fought 2-1 decision over Gideon Fasanya at 197 pounds.
  • Owen Reber rounded out the dual and secured the 26-9 victory for Alvernia with an 8-4 decision over Joseph Gassert at 285 pounds.
