Hamilton, Dearry Lead Golden Wolves Past Eagles, 80-57

St. Davids, Pa. (February 17, 2026) - Alvernia University (13-10, 7-6) secured the season sweep of Eastern University (9-15, 6-7) with a 23 point, 80-57 victory over the Eagles in a MAC Commonwealth men's basketball matchup Tuesday evening at Eastern. 

The Golden Wolves held a nine point, 38-29 advantage at the half and then outscored the Eagles 42-28 in the second half en route to the 80-57 victory. The Golden Wolves shot an even 50% from the floor and held the Eagles to a 30% shooting percentage from the floor. 

With the victory, the Golden Wolves secured a spot in the MAC Commonwealth playoffs for the fifth straight season. 

How it Happened
  • The Eagles came out and grabbed the early lead in the first three minutes of the game with an 8-2 stretch to start the game. 
  • The Golden Wolves cut the lead in half thanks to a Kareem Diaz three pointer to make it 8-5, but Eastern answered with an 8-4 run to push the lead to seven, 16-9. 
  • Alvernia's Elijah Hamilton hit a jumper that halted the Eastern run and sparked a 10-2 scoring stretch for the Golden Wolves that saw them take the lead, 19-18, after a Janye Stanley three ball with seven minutes to play in the half. 
  • The Golden Wolves continued to score the basketball and hold Eastern to bad possessions over the next three minutes and rattled off a 10-3 scoring stretch that saw them push the lead to eight, 29-21. 
  • Eastern and Alvernia then traded buckets over the next minute and a half before a Rasheem Dearry three ball and a Naji Hamilton layup saw the Golden Wolves take a nine point, 38-29 advantage into the halftime break. 
  • Elijah Hamilton and Rasheem Dearry led all scorers in the first half with Hamilton tallying 11 and Dearry added ten. Janye Stanley followed with seven and Mason Jones added five.
  • The Golden Wolves came out hot at the start of the second half and went on a 10-5 scoring run to start the second half and extended its lead to 14, 48-34, with 15 to play in the game. 
  • The Eagles answered with a layup but the two teams then went almost three minutes before Jones knocked down a jumper for Alvernia to keep it a 14 point game, 50-36, with under 12 to play. 
  • The Golden Wolves would begin to pull away from the Eagles over the next eight minutes of play and went on a 17-11 scoring run that stretched their lead to 20, 67-47, with under three minutes to play in the game. Hamilton tallied seven points during the stretch and Stanley and Dearry added five apiece. 
  • Alvernia capped off the victory with a 13-10 run in the final two minutes of the game to secure the 23 point, 80-57 victory over Eastern. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • Elijah Hamilton led all scorers with 24 points and ten rebounds on an 11-18 night from the floor. Hamilton also tallied a team high three blocks, added three steals and knocked down two shots from the free throw line. 
  • Rasheem Dearry followed Hamilton with a 19 point, eight rebound performance. Dearry knocked down three buckets from beyond the arc, dished out four assists and tallied two steals. 
  • Janye Stanley rounded out the Golden Wolves in double figures with a 14 point performance and also added three rebounds and three assists. 
  • Mason Jones finished with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and a team high four steals. 
  • Kareem Diaz notched seven points and grabbed seven rebounds, Ian Hendrix came off the bench and knocked down a corner three and Austin Mbuyi and Naji Hamilton rounded out the scorers for the Golden Wolves with two points each. 
  • The Golden Wolves shot an even 50% from the floor in the victory and 46.7% from beyond the arc. Alvernia also outrebounded the Eagles 44-39 and outscored Eastern 48-24 in the paint.
