Philiposian, Mays Named Alvernia Athletes of the Week

Reading, Pa. (March 16, 2026) - Alvernia Women's Equestrian sophomore Emma Philiposian and Baseball senior Matt Mays were named the Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of March 9 - March 15, 2026.

Emma Philiposian had both first and third place finishes on Saturday at Alvernia's final regular season show on Saturday.  Philiposian took first place in the Open Flat  - the highest level of flat class - and third place in Open Fences - the highest level of fences. In Open Flat, Philiposian entered Saturday needing two points to qualify for regional finals. She posted a seven point performance on Zac to earn first place and secure a spot in the regional finals. She followed that performance with a third place ride on Jazz in open fences with a four point performance. Her 11 point total on the day put her in a three way tie for Reserve High Point Rider, which she won following a question-off. Her 11 point performance also led Alvernia to a 31 point team total to take second place, just one point behind Delaware Valley's 32. 

Matt Mays got the start on the mound in game three of Alvernia's MAC Commonwealth series against Albright on Saturday. Mays went the distance in the seven inning contest to earn the complete game win. He scattered nine hits and allowed just two earned runs across the seven innings. Mays also struck out seven batters and gave up just one walk.

Philoposian and teammate Emmerson Bartley will represent Alvernia at Regionals on March 28th to close out Alvernia's 2025-26 Equestrian season. Baseball is back in action on Wednesday with a non-conference matchup at home against NJCU.
