How it Happened
  • Alvernia put two runners on in the top of the first, but Wartburg got out of the early threat by forcing a groundout. Wartburg threatened in its half of the first, putting runners on second and third with one out. But, Kalli Bunnell made a great grab on a pop fly into no man's land. Bunnell then tossed the ball to Angelina Sponheimer at first, who threw it to Taylor McClain at short to double-up the runner who did not tag. A run came home on the play, but was ruled as not counting to keep the game at 0-0.
  • The Knights got on the board in the bottom half of the second with a two-out double off the left field wall to bring in a run.
  • The Knights tacked on two more in the bottom of the third. Wartburg made it a 2-0 game after putting a runner on on a field error. She made her way around the bases and took home on a squeeze. That batter then made her way around the bases and also scored on a squeeze to give Wartburg the 3-0 lead.
  • Alvernia threatened in the top of the fourth to get on the board. Sponheimer walked with one out to put a runner on, and moved over to third on a double by Savannah Richards. But, Sponheimer was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice and Richards was stranded at third to end the inning and the threat.
  • Wartburg added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wartburg scored two runs on a double to center, and added its third on a bunt that saw the runner at second take two bases to give the Knights the 6-0 lead heading into the fifth.
  • Wartburg made it a 7-0 game in the bottom of the fifth on a double to deep center to score a runner on first. But, Alvernia got out of the inning without any more damage done.
  • Alvernia left runners on in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not avoid the shutout as Wartburg took the 7-0 win.
