Golden Wolves Take Down Gothic Knights, 15-7

Reading, Pa. (March 31, 2026) - Alvernia University (10-12) scored 12 runs in the first four innings of the game en route to a 15-7 victory over New Jersey City University (6-10-1) Tuesday evening in a non-conference baseball game in Angelica Park.

The Golden Wolves opened the game with two runs in the home half of the first before posting back to back five spots in the third and fourth innings to take a commanding, 12-1 lead. The Gothic Knights fought back and scored four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth but it was not enough as the Golden Wolves held on and tacked on three more insurance runs en route to the victory.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves struck first in the bottom of the first inning after loading the bases, Bobby Hansen laced a two RBI single up the middle to score Jack Zabarsky and Timmy Hitchcock and give the Golden Wolves an early 2-0 lead.
  • NJCU pulled one back in the top half of the third inning after a sacrifice fly scored a run but the Golden Wolves responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a six run lead.
  • Timmy Hitchcock scored after a NJCU error before Jake Chapman laced a two RBI single up the middle to score Christopher Babkowski and Harold Ivery III. Bobby Hansen then came around to score after an errant throw entered the Alvernia dugout and allowed Hansen to score and made it a 6-1 ballgame. Joe Glass capped the five run inning with a sacrifice fly the next at bat that scored Chapman and pushed it to a six run, 7-1 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves then put up another five spot in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 11 run lead. Alvernia scored a run after a bases loaded error forced in a run before Glass singled to right field to drive in another run to make it 9-1.
  • Mike Pulcini worked a bases loaded walk to force in another Alvernia run before Max Hansen beat out a dribbler down the first base line that allowed Jake Chapman to score and pushed it to a ten run Alvernia lead. Jack Zabarsky capped the inning and drove in Pulcini to make it a 12-1 ballgame after four innings of play.
  • Alvernia tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning after Max Hansen scored via a wild pitch and Hitchcock scored on a Bobby Hansen RBI single to center field to extend the lead to 13, 14-1.
  • NJCU pulled six runs back between the seventh and eighth innings after posting four runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to make it a 14-7 game.
  • The Golden Wolves added one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to an Austin Schurman solo homer into the Alvernia bullpen secured the 15-7 victory for the Golden Wolves. The home run was also Schurman's first collegiate hit.
