Golden Wolves Down Raptors, 10-6

Camden, N.J. (April 14, 2026) - Alvernia University (15-17) picked up a 10-6  win over Rutgers-Camden (14-16) on Tuesday night in non-conference baseball action at Rutgers-Camden.

The Raptors took a 2-0 lead in the first, but Alvernia answered back and took a 3-2 lead in the third. After some back and forth in the middle stretch, Alvernia pulled away with a three-run sixth inning and two-run seventh inning. The Raptors put the game-tying run at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Alvernia held off Rutgers for the 10-6 win.

How it Happened
  • Rutgers-Camden grabbed the lead early in the ballgame after pushing two runs across in the bottom of the first inning. Rutgers-Camden tallied a single to left and then a run was able to score after an errant Golden Wolves throw to put them up 1-0. They then added to the lead with a sacrifice fly that was deep enough to score a run and gave the Scarlet Raptors a 2-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves answered right back with a run in the top half of the second inning after Logan Nelson ripped an RBI single through the left side that scored Harold Ivery III and pulled Alvernia within one.
  • Alvernia grabbed the lead in the third inning with two runs in the frame. Timmy Hitchcock started things off with an RBI single to center field that scored Max Hansen and then took the lead after an RBI single off the bat of Bobby Hansen plated Hitchcock and gave the Golden Wolves a 3-2 advantage.
  • Camden responded in the bottom half of the third inning and tied the game with an RBI single through the right side of the Alvernia infield leveled the game at three.
  • The tie did not last long as Alvernia retook the lead with a two-run top of the fourth. Nelson singled to right field and advanced to second on a fielder's choice on the at-bat of Jake Chapman. Nelson came around to score on an RBI single by Max Hansen to give Alvernia the 4-3 lead. Chapman then came around to score on a Timmy Hitchcock single to right to make it a 5-3 game.
  • The Raptors got one back in the bottom of the fifth. Rutgers put a runner on with a double, and followed with another double to get back within one, 5-4.
  • Alvernia used a three spot in the sixth to build some separation with the Raptors. Nelson led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chapman, and made it over to third on a groundout by Max Hansen. Jack Zabarsky then drove in Nelson on a single to the right gap. Alvernia tacked on two more on a two-run single to right by Bobby Hansen to score Hitchcock and Zabarsky and give Alvernia the 8-4 lead.
  • The Raptors got another run back in the bottom half of the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
  • Alvernia kept it rolling in the top of the seventh, plating two runs to take a 10-5 lead. Ivery III led off the inning with a single to left. He advanced to second with Babkowski reaching on a walk, and moved over to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Ivery crossed home on a sacrifice fly by Nelson, and a Max Hansen single to second drove in Babkowski to give Alvernia the 10-5 lead.
  • The Raptors threatened the lead in the ninth. Rutgers got a run back with a two-out RBI double to the left gap. They then proceeded to load the bases and put the game-tying run at the plate. But, the threat ended there as Michael Andrew picked up a strike out to grab the third out of the game and secure the 10-6 win.
