Greyhounds Sweep Golden Wolves

Reading, Pa. (April 2, 2026) - Alvernia University (9-13) dropped both games in a non-conference softball doubleheader to Moravian University (12-8) Thursday afternoon down in Angelica Park.

The Greyhounds loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first, but Alvernia got out of the inning with two great defensive plays. Pitcher Natalie Berwick caught a comebacker in the circle and got the runner on third base for the doubleplay, and Alexia Fitzgerald made a diving catch in left field to record the final out of the inning without giving up the early run.

The game then turned into a pitcher's duel until the fifth inning, with both teams combining for two hits between the bottom of the first and the top of the fifth. The Greyhounds broke the game open in the fifth, putting up five runs off of five hits to take the 5-0 lead. The inning was capped off by a three-run homer over the left field wall.

Moravian then took the 13-0 lead in the sixth, plating eight runs in the inning off of seven hits and an error. Alvernia followed with two hits in its half of the sixth, but could not get a runner across home as Moravian took game one 13-0 in six innings.

Alvernia finished with three hits. Natalie Berwick struck out three in five innings.

Game two of the doubleheader was a defensive battle. Moravian got on the board in the bottom of the second on a ground out to short that allowed a run to come home and score. But, that was the only run Alvernia allowed in game two. The Golden Wolves were held to just one base runner through four innings. Alvernia put a runner on in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. But, none were able to make it past second base as Moravian held on for the 1-0 win.

Kelsey Racine went the distance for Alvernia in the circle in game two, striking out one in the 1-0 loss.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday at Hood in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader.
