Golden Wolves Fall to Blazers, 4-3

Frederick, Md. (April 3, 2026) - Alvernia University (10-14, 3-7) fell to Hood College (11-14, 6-4), 4-3, Friday evening in game one of a MAC Commonwealth baseball series at Hood.

The Golden Wolves grabbed a two run lead in the first inning and held that lead until the sixth inning when the Blazers grabbed one back to make it a 2-1 game. Alvernia righted the ship and held the one run lead until a three run home run over the left field wall by Hood in the bottom of the eighth gave Hood the two run, 4-2 lead. Alvernia grabbed one back in the top of the ninth but it was not enough as the Blazers took game one of the Commonwealth series, 4-3.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves struck first in the top of the first inning after putting up two runs to start the game. Max Hansen and Jack Zabarsky both worked walks before advancing to second and third via a groundout. Harold Ivery III then drove in Hansen and Zabarsky with a two RBI single to left field to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0.
  • Alvernia starting pitcher Chris Sasso began to hold the Blazer's offense at bay over the next four innings of work and allowed just one hit over the first four innings.
  • Hood pulled one back in the home half of the fifth inning to make it a one run game. After a leadoff walk, Hood's Amrit Brown tallied an RBI double into the right center gap that pulled Hood within one. After Sasso punched out the next two batters, Hood's Kamari Chisolm sent a groundball that was heading into right field but Alvernia second baseman Timmy Hitchcock made a spectacular diving stop to his left, knocked the ball down and made the throw to end the inning, prohibit the tying run from scoring and preserve the one run Alvernia lead.
  • Alvernia's Sasso bounced back after giving up the run in the fifth and shut down the Blazers, three up, three down, in the next two innings to send the game into the top of the eighth inning with Alvernia holding onto a one run, 2-1 lead.
  • Hood grabbed the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after back to back singles put runners on first and second. The Blazers took the lead after a three run homer to left center made it a 4-2 ballgame in favor of the Blazers.
  • Alvernia made a late push in the top of the ninth inning and scored a run thanks to a RBI groundout by Max Hansen to pull within one but that was all Alvernia could push across as the Blazers secured the 4-3 victory and took game one of the MAC Commonwealth series.
