Field Hockey Suffers 2-0 Loss to No.6 Franklin & Marshall

Reading, Pa. (September 16, 2026) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Alvernia University field Hockey team fell short to No.6 ranked Franklin & Marshall 2-0. The Diplomats captured an early goal in the first quarter and held on to it until eventually putting the game away in the fourth with their second of the day. The Golden Wolves offense looked strong, putting together some great opportunities on cage, but could not break through. Sophomore goalie Jazmin Mayfield put together a strong performance with 11 saves on the day. 


How it Happened 

  • Franklin and Marshall struck first in the first minute and a half of the game when Megan Dadio found Ava Lofgren on the back post to put the Diplomats up 1-0. 

  • F&M tallied seven more shots at the Alvernia net with four going on goal and two hitting the post but Alvernia's Jazmin Mayfield was able to keep the Diplomats out of goal and kept the deficit at one heading into the second quarter. 

  • The Golden Wolves recorded four shots in the second quarter and fired three shots on goal but F&M's goalie Meghan Dole saved all three to keep the Diplomats in the lead, 1-0, heading into the half. 

  • F&M controlled the ball on the offensive side of the ball in the third quarter and rattled off five shots at the Alvernia goal with two of them going on goal, but Alvernia's Mayfield kept the ball out of the back of the cage as the Golden Wolves still trailed the Diplomats, 1-0, heading into the fourth quarter. 

  • The Diplomats extended their lead to two, 2-0, in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter when Hannah Fitzgerald connected with Caitlin Hoover who found the bottom left corner of the goal to extend the F&M lead. 

  • The Golden Wolves responded with a flurry of offensive pressure on the Diplomats goal and won three penalty corners in three minutes that resulted in three shots at the F&M goal but they were not able to break through the line and cut into the Diplomats lead. 

  • The Diplomats went on to hold the Golden Wolves scoreless through the remaining minutes to defeat Alvernia.
